The Klein ISD Education Foundation hosted their 20th Annual Academic Banquet to celebrate the top 10 graduating seniors from each of the five Klein ISD high schools, their honored educators, and the Dr. Donald R. Collins Distinguished Klein Educator.

“I am so proud of our incredibly bright and talented Top 10 Scholars and their outstanding educators,” Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. “I know these young people will continue their commitment to excellence as they embark on the next steps of their academic journey. Many thanks to all of their families and our Klein ISD community for loving and supporting these incredible scholars and to our Klein Education Foundation for making this beautiful night possible.”

In attendance were the students, their families, their honored educators, and cherished community partners who support the Klein Education Foundation.

“We are proud to have been able to honor our top 10 seniors with a celebratory ceremony,” Klein Education Foundation Director Christy Spisak said. “These students are a great representation of the amazing scholars that Klein ISD produces.”

This year’s recipient of the Dr. Donald R. Collins Distinguished Educator Award was retired educator, athletic director, and coach, Robert Young. Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown, along with her husband Brian, sponsored and presented the award to Mr. Young.

Coach Young is a treasured member of our Klein Family and is an outstanding representative of the longstanding tradition of excellence in Klein ISD.

Serving as a team captain on Klein High School’s first district championship football team in 1966 before he graduated from Klein in 1967, Coach Young played football in college and went on to coach football around Texas before moving back to his home in Klein in 1982 to educate and lead student athletes at Klein Forest High School. He served as an educator and coach at Klein Forest High School and as the district athletic director before retiring in 2011 — after 40 years in public education.

The keynote speaker for this year’s event was Klein Forest High School Class of 2008 alum, Ford Lakin. Lakin was overjoyed to share his thoughts and wishes for the elite students of the Class of 2022.
