Klein Cain JROTC Cadet Awarded $100,000 Army Scholarship
Congratulations are in order for Klein Cain senior Madison Powell! This JROTC Hurricane Battalion Cadet First Sergeant has been awarded a four-year Army ROTC Scholarship, worth over $100,000 to Valley Forge Military College.
“I am so proud of Madison and her selection to receive her scholarship,” said Klein Cain Principal Nicole Patin. “Her commitment to living out our Hurricane CAT 5 Core Values of Collaboration, Risk-Taking, Integrity, Passion and Problem Solving has truly paid off and earned her an amazing opportunity for her future! Her Klein Cain family wishes her all the best as she starts this next chapter in her life!”
The scholarship will cover Madison’s first two years at Valley Forge Military College and her tuition for the last two years of college at a school of her choice. She will be given a monthly living stipend and a yearly book allowance while attending school. While at Valley Forge, Madison will be in the ROTC Early Commissioning Program (ECP) which puts her on the accelerated leadership path to being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army.
“I will be studying Biology while serving on the Army Reserves until I graduate from a four-year university,” said Madison Powell. “I plan to go on active duty in the US Army once I graduate and have a career in the military as part of the Army Medical Services Corps.”
Army ROTC ECP Scholarships are awarded based on a student’s merit and grades, rather than financial need. For the two years Madison has been a part of the Klein Cain Hurricane Battalion JROTC, she has been a stand-out, top-performing cadet. She has attained high levels of academic success throughout high school and has proven herself as a leader.
“Madison has the rank of Cadet First Sergeant and has held other leadership positions within the program and actively participated on the Physical Training Team,” Klein Cain Senior Army JROTC Instructor Major Carl Lockett said. “She is a model student, which demonstrates to other students that hard work and perseverance pays off. Madison set a goal of obtaining a ROTC Scholarship and she made it happen!”
Madison attributes much of her personal growth to her time in JROTC. While she has worked very hard on being successful in school and within JROTC, she knows much of what she has accomplished was heightened by what she learned as a part of the program.
“I used to be a shy, secluded, dependent person. Now, with the help of those in JROTC and our leaders, I have been able to grow as a person and come out of my shell,” said Madison Powell. “I know that being allowed to dedicate myself to the program has been a privilege that I will not forget or take for granted.”
Madison, we are so proud of you! Congratulations on this major accomplishment, you deserve it!
