Happy Mother’s Day — A Message from Our Superintendent Dr. McGown
This one is for the Moms.
First, this is for my mom, the bravest and most beautiful woman I know. Since I was a little girl, I have watched with deep admiration her kind, simple way of bringing hope and help to countless lives. She is a woman who leaves everything and everyone in her midst better than she found them, and I could not be more grateful to be her daughter.
Of course this Mother’s Day weekend, I am also reflecting on the joy of when I became a mom. Like all moms, I’ll never forget the first time I held my children in my arms, the sense of sheer happiness and responsibility that came with such tremendous blessings. No doubt, one of the greatest privileges and callings of my life is in the name “Mom.”
Today in Klein ISD, there are so many moms— some by birth, some by adoption or influence—loving their children. Some moms are like mine, her children all grown up and raising children of their own. Another is swaddling her newborn while chasing her toddlers, her days full of diapers and strollers and playdates; another is juggling the demands of work and carpools and calendars full of sports and activities; still another is soon to have an empty nest, treasuring her final days with her “babies” at home; and then there is the mom I pray for especially today, she who is suffering the unbearable loss of her child, longing for just another moment this side of heaven.
I am not sure who you are reading these words today. And yet if you are a mom of any sort, I do know this: you want what is best for your children and there is no sacrifice too great for you to make. You will do whatever is necessary to make the absolute best a reality for your child.
Every morning, I am grateful that there is such beauty and potential alive in the promise of our children. I applaud the unconditional love of moms and the safe, sacred spaces moms create. I cherish the partnership of moms who realize that perhaps the greatest legacy we create with our life is in and for our kids.
And so, this Mother’s Day weekend, I hope all of you will join me in, first, cherishing and celebrating the strong, compassionate women we call our moms and, second, providing through our collective sacrifice, the hope, the opportunity, and the unconditional love of a mom for every child in our Klein community.
Happy Mother’s Day, Klein Family!
