Reading Express Returns for Summer 2022

Reading Express Returns for Summer 2022

The Klein ISD Reading Express mobile library has hit the road for summer literacy fun.

Catch this beloved staple at a neighborhood stop near you as it drops by Monday through Thursday from 8:30 AM – 3 PM each week this summer, starting June 6.

Originating in 2010, the Reading Express is not like your traditional standard summer reading program. Instead, this mobile library’s mission is to ensure that every Klein ISD student has access to library materials and programming throughout the summer. If students cannot make it to the library, the Reading Express will bring the library to them!

Along with the Reading Express’ mission, the mobile library hosts storytime, crafts, and fun activities for students and families. Students who visit the Reading Express can also check out a book like they would during the school year.

Initially created to reach communities in Klein ISD who may lack access to transportation and a way to visit the library, the Reading Express has since expanded its reach and now services even more neighborhoods from across the district. The Reading Express is adding a 20th stop to their route this year. Community members can also look for yard signs indicating where the REX will be stopping each week.

The Klein Education Foundation initially founded the Reading Express with the hopes of creating a successful mobile library in the Klein ISD community.

“We are excited to bring the Reading Express to the community for another fun-filled summer of reading and literacy,” Benignus Librarian Leane Krause said. “By adding an additional stop, we can serve more communities throughout Klein ISD! We look forward to seeing everyone this summer!

The foundation that holds the Reading Express together is driver Jose Diaz, Krause says. Acting as the driver from the mobile library’s inception, Diaz is an important staple of the Reading Express’ continued success. From interacting with clients to assisting with the mobile library’s maintenance, this remarkable gentleman displays what it means to truly have a servant’s heart.

The Klein Education Foundation and several community partners have stepped up to make this summer special for Klein ISD students. Extra accommodations like thorough sanitation and safety measures have been implemented for families who choose to take their craft on the go.

We look forward to seeing our awesome Klein ISD students at a Reading Express stop this summer!
