UPDATED: Dr. Jenny McGown Named Finalist for 2022 Texas Superintendent of the Year
The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) has announced that Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown has been named one of only five top superintendents from across Texas who have been chosen as finalists in the 2022 Texas Superintendent of the Year program.
“Dr. McGown has a huge heart for our kids and is fully dedicated to the Klein ISD community,” Klein ISD Board President Ronnie Anderson said. “This honor is a testament to her excellent leadership and the way she always gives her absolute best to our Klein Family every single day. We are all so very proud of Dr. McGown for this wonderful and well-deserved achievement.”
Klein ISD has seen a successful year so far with both Dr. McGown being named a State Finalist for Texas Superintendent of the Year along with Fox Elementary Teacher of the Year Lisa Mackey, a State Elementary Teacher of the Year finalist. This is the first time that Klein ISD has had both a superintendent and teacher reach this state-level of recognition at the same time.
Dr. McGown was quick to give credit for this recognition to the entire Klein Family and Klein ISD community.
“We have the best students, teachers, support staff, and families anywhere,” Dr. McGown said. “It is an honor to shine the spotlight on all of the hardworking, dedicated people in our Klein Family and to lift up and celebrate the incredible work we get to do together for kids in Klein ISD.”
Dr. Jenny McGown, superintendent of Klein Independent School District, has been named the 2022 Region 4 Superintendent of the Year.
In March 2022, the Klein ISD Board of Trustees unanimously voted to nominate Dr. McGown for this honor. The TASB Regional Screening Committee, comprised of board members from districts within Region 4, selected Dr. McGown from the nearly 50 public school districts, 1.2 million students, 105,000 educators, and 1,500 campuses spread across the seven counties served by Region 4.
Dr. McGown has served in our District as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal, executive director of student performance, chief learning officer, and deputy superintendent. Since being named as superintendent, she has faithfully led the district through a global pandemic and the successful passage of the largest bond in district history, always with students at the center of everything she does.
“It is our Board’s great honor to learn that our outstanding Klein ISD superintendent, Dr. Jenny McGown, has been selected as the Region 4 Superintendent of the Year,” Klein ISD Board President Ronnie Anderson said. “In my 13 years of serving as a Klein ISD Trustee, I have not experienced a more spirited, dedicated, and successful leader in public education than Dr. McGown. She is extraordinarily gifted, and we’re fortunate to have her brilliant mind and caring heart protecting and enhancing our longstanding tradition of excellence and innovation in Klein ISD.”
Under Dr. McGown’s leadership, Klein ISD has been honored as District Administration’s National District of the Year, recognized twice for Houston Business Journal Innovation Awards, and named an HEB Excellence in Education Award for Best Large District finalist twice. She has also played a pivotal role in improving student outcomes and developing unique learning pathways for students to earn advanced degrees before high school graduation, including the first-in-the-state Geospatial Engineering and Land Surveying Pathway.
“I am grateful to serve alongside such outstanding superintendents, and I am very honored to be selected as the Region 4 Superintendent of the Year,” Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. “Thank you to our extraordinary Klein ISD Board of Trustees for the nomination and, most of all, for the way you always keep students at the heart of your leadership. This recognition truly belongs to our entire Klein Family and reflects the tireless work they do every single day with such love and care for our students and community.”
Dr. McGown has led family engagement efforts throughout her career that are successfully developing and maintaining strong relationships among families, staff, and community members. In 2021, she was recognized nationally as a Top Superintendent to Watch by the National School Public Relations Association for her dynamic, fast-paced leadership in strong communication to engage school communities.
“There is no one more deserving of this achievement than Dr. McGown,” Associate Superintendent of Communications and Public Relations Dayna Hernandez said. “It is a privilege to work alongside and learn from her as she strategically leads our Klein Family with her whole heart and a relentless focus on paving the way for every student’s success. We are so fortunate to have her as our leader.”
Klein ISD has most recently been honored as a two-time recipient of the Texas Education Agency’s Parent and Family Engagement Promising Practices Award and has been appointed as a member of the State Council for Parent and Family Engagement as a model school district.
“Dr. McGown is a champion of the classroom,” Klein ISD Elementary District Teacher of the Year Lisa Mackey said. “She has a genuine love for students and staff and brings a joyful energy and teacher’s heart to everything she does. Dr. McGown supports and encourages us each and every time she visits our classrooms.”
Congratulations, Dr. McGown! You love and lead so well, and this is no surprise to us seeing the incredible work you do for the students and staff of Klein ISD. Your Klein Family is so proud of you!
