Strack and Doerre Intermediate Take Home Big Wins at National Pentathlon
Students from Doerre and Strack Intermediate shined at the 2021-2022 United States Academic Pentathlon receiving awards and winning over the hearts of judges and the audience in attendance.
The Academic Pentathlon allows intermediate students to experience the benefits of Academic Decathlon before entering high school. Students explore five subjects connected to a theme and attempt to move an audience not just with facts and rhetoric but with confidence. These scholars, made up of students in various grades, work as a team and are divided into Scholastic, Varsity, and Honors levels.
After competing against some of the top intermediate scholars in the United States, Strack Intermediate’s eighth-grade team ultimately took second place in the Nation, while the seventh-grade team captured fourth place. Doerre Intermediate’s teams also gave it their all and obtained third place overall.
Director of Advanced Academic Services Ms. Kathleen Plott is overjoyed to see the success these talented students have garnered with their momentous wins.
“Klein ISD has always had a strong record of success at the regional, state, and national level with their intermediate school Pentathlon teams,” Director Plott said. “This competition is the extension of an out-of-school option with interdisciplinary content connections for every level of the learner. Advanced Academic Services proudly supports our schools through coach training, tournament organization, and competition entrance fees. We are so proud of the national-level winning teams from Doerre and Strack and look forward to even more participation in 2022-2023!”
