Two Klein ISD Transportation Employees Honored at State Level

Two Klein ISD Transportation Employees Honored at State Level

Two excellent Klein ISD Transportation employees are being honored for their hard work, dedication, and how they continuously give back to our students.

Craig Shelton and Kim Shoemaker have both been recognized by the 2021-2022 Texas Association for Pupil Transportation (TAPT) Awards Committee as recipients of the TAPT Special Needs Driver of the Year and the TAPT Special Needs Attendant of the Year, respectively.

Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown is thrilled to recognize these dedicated Transportation employees and expressed her joy at the announcement.

“I am so proud of both Craig and Kim for their outstanding leadership which led to these prestigious TAPT awards,” Dr. McGown said. “The care and dedication they show daily toward our students is a testament to the overall excellence of our Klein ISD Transportation Department.”

Klein ISD Director of Transportation John Fergerson is extremely proud of his employees and how they show up each day ready to serve students and make a lasting difference.

“Craig’s motto is ‘don’t just make a living, make a difference and a positive impact in kids’ lives,’ and he does just that,” Fergerson said. “He has had many very successful and lucrative jobs in his lifetime, but he says this is the most rewarding job he has ever had. Craig is a ray of sunshine to be around, and you can not help but be happy when he is in your presence.”

The TAPT Special Needs Driver of the Year Award focuses on an individual who drives or subs on a route to transport students with special needs to school and home daily. The TAPT Special Needs Attendant of the Year Award focuses on an individual whose role is to assist the driver on a route that transports students with special needs.

“Kim helps with every event we have at transportation and does most of this in ‘stealth-mode’ because she does not do it for recognition,” Mr. Fergerson said. “She does all of this simply because she loves her bus babies, her work family, and everything about that beautiful yellow bus- as she puts it, this is her happy place.”

This year’s TAPT award winners were celebrated at the TAPT 2022 Awards Banquet and received their prestigious award and a $100 gift certificate.

Congratulations, Craig and Kim, on how you invest in every Klein ISD student. You are both so deserving of this recognition, and your Klein Family is beyond proud of you!
