Summer Fine Arts Camp Triples in Size, Students Thrive in Highly Focused Environment

Summer Fine Arts Camp Triples in Size, Students Thrive in Highly Focused Environment

This year, over 200 Klein ISD sixth-graders attended the Summer Strings Foundation for the Arts and Community Enrichment (FACE) Camp. A record-breaking number of students registered this year.

Klein ISD and FACE partnered to provide students in our community a “focused and highly personalized summer orchestra camp” experience with Klein ISD orchestra directors teaching classes. The increase in registered student-musicians indicates a continued interest in fine arts within the Klein ISD community.

“After the camp, I get feedback from the directors, and their excitement for each student is indescribable,” Executive Director of FACE Nanci Decker said. “The growth the directors see is instant, from students being more confident to showing leadership skills with their peers and more.”

Summer Strings is a week-long camp that allows students to hone their skills in their instrument of choice while also building connections with other students across the district. This camp also will enable students to work directly with their directors, which helps tune up their skills for the upcoming year.

“What I look forward to in camps like FACE is when students from across the district get to see other students who share their passion,” Klein ISD Director of Fine Arts Creston Herron said. “Klein ISD has a long tradition of supporting the fine art through events such as this.”

This year, Klein ISD provided transportation to student-musicians who needed it at no cost.

“My favorite part about FACE camp was making new friends,” Klein ISD student and bass player Violet said. “I look forward to learning new songs I can perform at camp next year.”

Klein ISD is proud to be the Best Community in Music Education for 11 consecutive years. The success of programs like the FACE Summer Strings Camp indicates how the support of our teachers and families helps uplift our student-musicians and propel their passion for music and the arts forward!

Founded in 1998, FACE is an organization that helps put on performances in venues, giving music students opportunities to explore their interests and connect with professional orchestra performers. In 2013, FACE added youth camps to their list of offered services as it was something that was not widely available in previous years.
