Cosmetology Pathway Students Test Skills
Klein Forest Cosmetology students rolled out the red carpet during the Klein Forest Cosmetology Service Day! Senior students put the mannequins aside and put their skills to the test on paying clients.
Klein ISD community and staff, along with our superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown, saw first-hand these hard-working students show off their gifts in this industry.
“I was so impressed with our cosmetology students’ talent during their Cosmetology Service Day,” said Dr. McGown. “Not only were they masters of their technique, but their customer service and professionalism were remarkable. I am so proud of the dedication of these students and can’t wait to see what they accomplish in their future!”
The Cosmetology Pathway is a unique two-year pathway that is available to students at all five high schools. Students in our program can save up to $40,000 compared to the cost of traditional cosmetology schools after graduation. The greatest benefit for students is the preparation they receive to take the state licensure exam to earn their Texas Cosmetology Operator License before they graduate high school. Klein ISD high school campuses have consistently proven to have a greater than 99 percent passing rate on the state exam.
Students in the Cosmetology Pathway receive comprehensive training by participating in two class periods of instruction in their junior year and three class periods of instruction as seniors. Students learn cosmetology theory and practice certification skills in the salon daily. While the salon is a classroom laboratory, providing salon services for clients helps students refine their skills.
After two years, the students fulfill a 1,000 contact hour requirement to take the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) examination to become hairstylists holding their Texas Cosmetology Operator License.
