Teacher Feature: Naomi Broussard, Kleb Intermediate

Reading textbooks to her stuffed animals, designing PowerPoints, and using Walkie Talkies for the Morning Announcements—even at 6 years old, Ms. Naomi Broussard knew she would be a teacher!

After spending time in in oil and gas and the legal field, Ms. Broussard made it back home to Kleb Intermediate, where she was once a Bearcub, to teach 7th-grade science.

Even though Ms. Broussard teaches science, don’t be surprised to see art projects hanging up in her classroom.

“Two main points of engagement for my class are art integration and music video Friday,” Ms. Broussard said. “I regularly try to incorporate the arts and artistic expression. One of my favorites is when we connected pointillism in art to parts of cell theory.”

It’s not easy to teach the many complex science terminologies. So when students come up with their way to remember this vocabulary, it’s one of Ms. Broussard’s favorite parts of teaching!

“Whether it’s a simple analogy or mnemonic device, all the way up to a huge creative project or critical thinking piece, I love seeing our students solve problems and come up with great ideas,” Ms. Broussard said.

Ms. Broussard not only provides excellence and innovation in education but teaches her kids what it means to be good citizens.

“I truly believe that middle school students are at a pivotal age where they can accomplish great things, but they need help knowing what to do and a set of expectations,” said Ms. Broussard. “Just like I teach the parts of cell theory, I need to explicitly teach voice levels, care expectations for supplies, and how we treat each other with respect.”

Thank you, Ms. Broussard, for sparking student innovation and creativity in your classroom! We are so thankful you are a part of our #KleinFamily!
