Klein ISD Adopts Lowest Tax Rate in 30 Years
The Klein ISD Board of Trustees adopted a new tax rate of $1.23 at the September Board of Trustees meeting. This new tax rate will be the lowest in 30 years.
“We are so pleased that our Board of Trustees adopted the lowest tax rate in 30 years,” Klein ISD Board President Ronnie Anderson said. “I am grateful for the partnership of our Board of Trustees and district leadership in maintaining our tradition of excellence, always working together to meet the needs of our students and maintain our high level of financial integrity and transparency while focusing on cost-saving measures for our taxpayers.”
Klein ISD Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Dan Schaefer, said he is pleased with the Board’s approval of a lower tax rate.
“We are excited that the trend of a lower tax rate continues.” Schaefer said. “This 7 cent reduction will certainly help our taxpayers as it will directly offset a portion of the impact of property value growth on their tax bills.”
Homestead taxes are frozen for citizens with the over 65 or disabled persons exemptions unless the citizen is currently paying below their tax ceiling.
Under state law, the dollar amount of school taxes imposed on the residence homestead of a person 65 years of age or older or of the surviving spouse of such a person, if the surviving spouse was 55 years of age or older when the person died, may not be increased above the amount paid in the first year after the person turned 65, regardless of changes in tax rate or property value.
