District Dash Participants ‘Amazed at How Many Choices Klein ISD Students Have’

Community members, parents, elected officials, and business owners went on a whirlwind tour of our District to see the amazing things happening in our advanced career & technical education pathways during our first-ever District Dash Day!

The dashers experienced first-hand the high-quality, industry-level learning taking place in classrooms across each high of the five high schools in our District.

“I’m amazed by how many choices Klein ISD students have access to,” Klein ISD parent and volunteer Lauren Dougherty said. “I’m a proud Klein High alumna, but seeing all these pathways makes me want to go back to high school to experience what Klein has to offer today’s students. Whether it’s to support themselves through college or start a career, I’m excited my elementary-age boys will have access to so many opportunities to graduate high school with skills and certifications that they can use for employment and income.”

The tour highlighted opportunities for the dashers to learn how to fly drones from Geospatial Engineering and Land Surveying students, industry-level baking in the Culinary Pathway, and stepping inside a working pharmacy lab with our Certified Pharmacy Technician students.

In total, the dashers visited with students from all five high schools. Here’s a glimpse into what they saw!

  • Practicum in STEM Dual Credit – Part of the Geospatial/Land Surverying Accelerated Pathway where students learn about mapping the Earth in spatial terms using Drones.
  • Principles of A/V Production – Students design, write, produce, exhibit, and publish multimedia content.
  • Entrepreneurship II– Students understand the process of analyzing a business opportunity, preparing a business plan, determining feasibility of an idea using research, and developing a plan to organize and promote the business and its products and services.
  • Practicum in Robotics – Students expand their knowledge on automation with complex programming, differentiated types of robotic components, and structure design. Students in this pathway will be able to attend competitions to modify their prototype.
  • Fashion Design Basics – Students gain the knowledge and skills related to the apparel industry and career preparation.
  • Veterinary Medical Applications –  Students are provided opportunities to demonstrate knowledge and skills in the veterinary medicine industry. Subject areas range from animal behavior to surgical procedures.
  • Health Science Theory – Students develop knowledge and skills related to a wide variety of health careers opportunities, advanced medical terminology, and pathophysiology as related to the health care profession.
  • Automotive Tech Basics – Students learn basic automotive systems, the theory and principals of the components that make up each system and how to service these systems.
  • Culinary Arts –  Students learn the fundamentals and principles of the art of cooking and science of baking.
  • Anatomy & Physiology Dual Credit – Students conduct laboratory investigations/fieldwork, use scientific methods during investigations, and make informed decisions using critical thinking and problem solving to study the structure and function of the human body.
  • Practicum in Health Science – Certified Pharmacy Technician – Through classroom instruction, lab applications, and independent study, students earn certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician.
