Fall 2022 Innovation Challenge – Team Sign-Up Now Open

Fall 2022 Innovation Challenge – Team Sign-Up Now Open

Kids across Klein ISD have participated in our Klein ISD Innovation Challenges using design thinking and entrepreneurial skills to solve real-world problems.

Erase the E-Waste is the next Klein ISD Innovation Challenge that encourages students to take on real-world challenges inside the walls of their classroom.

Step 1: Form your Team and Team SponsorAny Klein ISD student, grades K-12 is eligible to participate in the innovation challenge. Team Sponsors (a Klein ISD Staff Member) will register students between September 28-October 21. View the sign-up button below or visit

Students will participate in teams of 2 to 5 members for the Innovation Challenge. Teams are not limited to grade-level specific. Multi-age teams are welcome!

Step 2: Start The Launch Cycle

What happens to the phones, computers, and other electronic devices found in our homes, schools, and businesses? Electronic waste, also called e-waste, is one of the fastest-growing streams of waste. While the amount of e-waste continues to grow, many of these old and unused electronics are not appropriately disposed of or recycled. As a result, much of the e-waste we create remains in our garages, attics, and closets or is just thrown out in the garbage.

Much of the electronic waste from developed nations is shipped to developing nations for disposal. However, improper electronic waste disposal poses significant environmental and human health risks.

For the 2022 Klein Innovation Challenge, students will explore the global issue of e-waste and its impact on our communities. Students will create a documentary that communicates their findings and propose an innovative solution to e-waste.

Step 3: Attend Day of Design – November 16, 2022

Klein ISD students will develop solutions to Erase the E-Waste in our 2022 Klein ISD Innovation Challenge. Student Teams will create a storyboard for the Day of Design. They will have 10 minutes to pitch their storyboard to an expert advisor, then receive feedback. The focus is on ideas and approaches, not products.

You will continue to work, edit, and enhance your storyboard for review from the expert advisors and then take their advice and tips to continue to make your documentary the best it can be!

As part of the team’s Day of Design, be prepared to share how teamwork impacted the design process, how they came up with the design, and how you would market/communicate your documentary to the public.

We look forward to seeing what our Kids in Klein come up with next!
