Nichelle Pinkney Honored as Inaugural TFLA Newcomer of the Year Recipient

Nichelle Pinkney Honored as Inaugural TFLA Newcomer of the Year Recipient

Klein ISD Instructional Officer for Social Studies and World Languages, Ms. Nichelle Pinkney, received the Newcomer of the Year award from the Texas Foreign Language Association (TFLA).

This is the first time TFLA, our state non-profit organization for World Language teachers and administrators, has bestowed this honor—a true honor for Ms. Pinkney as the inaugural recipient.

“I have always been, and continue to be, incredibly proud of Ms. Nichelle Pinkney for her commitment to leading, inspiring, and learning alongside our awesome teachers in Klein ISD,” Executive Director of Curriculum Design and Delivery Dr. Alysa Cozart said. “This award proves that Ms. Pinkney’s hard work, passion, and dedication to Social Studies and World Languages education truly goes beyond our great school district and shines across the entire state of Texas. Congratulations, Ms. Pinkney!”

In her role, Ms. Pinkney has worked collaboratively with teachers on curriculum, PLC support, lesson design, and providing high-quality professional development. Ms. Pinkney leads by example and works directly with teachers on campus.

“I am humbled to be honored and grateful to serve the World Languages (WL) teachers of Klein ISD,” Ms. Pinkney said. “I was truly baffled initially because I did not realize what all we had accomplished. If it were not for the collaborative work of the World Language Ambassadors, our WL Program coordinator Sally Barnes, and the WL teachers, I would not have been a nominee for this. It truly takes a village to achieve great things. We have so many other goals we want to accomplish; this is just one step along the way.”

According to TFLA, Ms. Pinkney was chosen as the 2022-2023 Newcomer of the Year due to her fierce support and advocacy of language education and her passion for building the leadership capacity of her teachers.

Congratulations to Ms. Nichelle Pinkney on this tremendous achievement. Our Klein Family is proud of you!
