Klein Oak Band, Color Guard Brings Their A-Game at State Competition

Klein Oak Band, Color Guard Brings Their A-Game at State Competition

The sights and the sounds of the Alamodome were louder and more illustrious than ever as 42 marching bands from across the state of Texas competed in the 2022 UIL 6A State Marching Championship in San Antonio. Among those in attendance was our very own Klein Oak High School Marching Band.

Qualifying for the State competition for two years in a row, the band, led by Mr. Joe Nuñez, is over 300 students strong and impressive in both sight and sound.

The band had 15 minutes to present their show to the judges and attendees..

“It was an honor watching this outstanding Marching Band take the stage,” Mr. Herron said. “I am so proud of the hard work they have done throughout this season and just loved watching this performance come alive at the state level.”

Taking the stage at the UIL State competition is an indescribable experience for many of the student musicians. They took the stage with an overwhelming passion that could be felt during their performance.

“Performing felt so good,” Klein Oak freshman and Baritone Saxophonist Braden Stewart said. “There was a lot of emotion in this performance and it made it that much better, especially for seniors who performed for the last time.”

Watching the performance was just as exhilarating for parents who came as spectators. The crowd roared with excitement as the band completed their show.

“Their performance was absolutely beautiful, and so amazing to watch,” Klein Oak Band parent Stacy Wicks said. “It gets better every single time I see it.”

Klein Oak Band Director Mr. Joe Nuñez beamed with pride as these Panthers took the stage. This is his first year directing this band and he couldn’t be more proud of the work they’ve done.

“It was so emotional just to be able to watch this performance. They always perform well but there was something truly unique about this performance,” Mr. Nuñez said. “I am extremely proud and humbled just to be able to witness it. I’ve never worked with a more hard working group of students.”

We are incredibly proud of our talented students, dedicated staff, and supportive families who make all our fine arts programs so remarkable!
