Klein Cain Chamber Orchestra Makes Finals, First Time in School History

The Klein Cain Chamber Orchestra has secured a coveted spot in the honor orchestra finals of the prestigious Texas Music Education Association (TMEA) Honor Orchestra Competition

The Chamber Orchestra at Klein Cain has made school history as this is the first time the orchestra has made it to the Finals. The Klein Cain Orchestra is also the newest program among all the finalists.

“I am blown away by the success of these outstanding student-musicians. Their unwavering dedication to achieving excellence is truly admirable,” Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. “Our entire Klein Family is proud of them and their gifted director, Ms. Mohi-Truong, for making school history. I know that this won’t be the last time they’ll celebrate this elite level of success!”

The Klein Cain Chamber Orchestra, led by Director Sundas Mohi-Truong and Assistant Director Hanson Yong, went up against 34 schools from across the state and is the only school in the region that advanced to the finals.

“This accomplishment is a testament not only to the dedication each of our students puts into their music individually but also to how they can unite as a team to perform their very best,” Ms. Mohi-Truong said. “There are not adequate words to express how proud I am of this group.”

Advancing to finals is no small feat as the TMEA Honor Orchestra Competition is one of the most competitive orchestra competitions in the country.

“This experience with preparing and performing for this competition taught me a lot about setting goals for myself instead of limits, which will be a big help as we continue to work on challenging repertoire for future performances,” Klein Cain senior and violinist Abigail Rock said.

For the competition, orchestra programs from across the state submit recordings of a complete performance from this current school year to the TMEA. Then, a panel of esteemed judges evaluates them to determine finalists. Once 10 finalists are named, they are ranked by the judges.

“I am so proud that our very own Klein Cain ranked among the best of the best,” Fine Arts Director Creston Herron said. “An honor of this magnitude is truly remarkable and well deserved!”

Congratulations to these outstanding student musicians for this impressive accomplishment. Your Klein family is so proud of you!
