KEF Awards Klein Forest $1,097 ‘KF Print Shop’ Grant

Klein Forest High School received a Klein ISD Education Foundation (KEF) grant to start a campus print shop to produce custom apparel for students and campus groups.
During a surprise visit by the KEF Celebration Express, the school was awarded the grant by Foundation directors, community members, and our Superintendent, Dr. Jenny McGown.
School staff were overjoyed as dozens of Foundation supporters climbed out of their school bus and delivered extensive checks to grant recipients.
Klein Forest will use the $1,097 grant, sponsored by H-E-B, to offer students in DECA and the Entrepreneurship pathway the chance to run their own business on campus, giving them business operations, management, financial, and leadership experience. In addition, the grant would provide for the purchase of commercial-grade equipment.
Students have already successfully tested this idea by creating an alum shirt that was sold at the Klein Nation homecoming event. While the Print Shop’s primary purpose is to provide students working in it with experience running a business, the entire Klein Forest population could benefit from the items produced and the school spirit it helps build.
“Bringing real-world experiences to life in the classroom is important on many levels. First, it helps bring relevance and understanding to the students and the financial reality of living and working in society,” KEF President Bill Lakin said. “I applaud Klein Forest for their forward-thinking in connecting school and work.”
This fall, the KEF Celebration Express delivered grants totaling $76,107 to bring education to life for our learners. From an inclusive ukulele program to a counseling comfort dog, our Fall 2022 grant recipients are innovative, engaging, and inspirational.
Thank you so much to all our grant sponsors who made all this possible. Your contribution will help further the educational experience of every Klein ISD student.
The Klein ISD Education Foundation accepts grant applications twice a year to encourage, facilitate, and recognize creative projects that lead to academic achievement for our Klein ISD students.
