Klein ISD Takes Center Stage as ‘Premiere Community’ in Theatre Education
Klein ISD was recently recognized as a “Premiere Community for Theatre Education” by Texas Thespians, an educational honor society and the largest Education Theatre Association chapter in the nation. This recognition places Klein ISD in the top 9 school districts in the state with outstanding theatre programs.
The recognition was awarded based on the Opportunity to Learn Standards set by the Educational Theatre Association, Texas Theatre Knowledge and Skills for Fine Arts (TEKS), and support of Thespian Troupe involvement. The district’s commitment to providing its theatre programs with the necessary resources to achieve above-standard results was the key factor in this recognition.
Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown expressed her enthusiasm toward this huge accomplishment.
“I am so proud of our incredibly talented theatre students and the wonderful teachers who truly make our theatre programs outstanding,” Dr. McGown said. “The amount of work put into developing and supporting young fine arts students is evident in how much our kids truly love their theatre courses and productions. This recognition proves that Klein ISD continues to exceed standards for a top-notch and excellent fine arts education.”
Texas Thespians determine this recognition and honor school districts that provide their theatre programs with the resources to achieve above standard. This recognition is rooted in the Educational Theatre Association’s Opportunity to Learn Standards, Texas Theatre Knowledge and Skills for Fine Arts (TEKS), and support of Thespian Troupe involvement.
Klein ISD Director of Fine Arts Creston Herron appreciated his staff and their efforts toward the programs and their students.
“There were so many indicators that Texas Thespians measured, but the most important one was the quality of instruction and educational experience that our teachers all provide our students,” Herron said. “Without them, this recognition would not be possible.”
We are so proud of our theatre teachers from across our district. Thank you for your continued commitment to our students, district, and community. You are extremely deserving of this recognition, and we appreciate YOU!
