Klein ISD Celebrates Full Recovery in Student Enrollment Post-Pandemic

KLEIN, Texas – Klein ISD has achieved full recovery in student enrollment since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to district data.
The district has witnessed a steady increase in enrollment numbers weekly, with the district surpassing pre-pandemic levels and growing.
As a fast-growth district for nearly two decades, the district reported student enrollment at 53,463 in the 2018-2019 school year before the pandemic. Like most districts across Texas, the district saw a decline in enrollment during the pandemic.
In the 2022-2023 school year, enrollment numbers have exceeded the pre-pandemic level at 54,013! The increase in enrollment is in part due to efforts to reach out to families and provide a safe, supportive learning environment for every child.
“We are so thankful in Klein ISD to be able to return to pre-pandemic enrollment levels,” Chief of Communications & Planning Dayna Hernandez said. “We value every student, and with steady enrollment, we look forward to serving even more students and families.”
Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown expressed pride in the district’s success, primarily due to a strong community of educators, parents, and students committed to excellence in all areas. The district has invested heavily in academic programs, including Advanced Placement courses, career and technical education, and dual credit opportunities. In addition, Klein ISD schools have strong athletic programs and a nationally-recognized award-winning fine arts program.
“Klein ISD is committed to providing every student with an excellent and well-rounded education,” Dr. McGown said. “Our students’ success and well-being is a top priority, and we will continue to do everything we can to ensure that they will thrive as students of integrity who achieve excellence in academics, arts, and athletics.”
Klein ISD’s successful recovery is a testament to the district’s efforts to maintain a safe, supportive learning environment for all students. Despite a national shortage of educators, Klein ISD began the 2022-2023 school year with 99.56 percent of all positions staffed. Additionally, Klein ISD credits the continued success of the district to its hard-working teachers and staff, who show up to serve our students and provide them with such great care each day. The district has shown that by working together, the community can overcome challenges and achieve success.
