Retired U.S. Navy Commander Matt Lipetska Named February 2023 Distinguished Alumni

KLEIN, TEXAS – At the February meeting of the Board of Trustees, retired U.S. Navy Commander Matt Lipetska was honored as the Distinguished Klein ISD Alumnus. Commander Lipetska was nominated by Board Trustee Ms. Georgan Reitmeire.

Commander Lipetska attended Greenwood Forest Elementary, Wunderlich Intermediate and is a proud Klein Forest High School graduate. While at Klein Forest, he was a standout student and athlete as the team captain of the football team and a baseball team member.

“It’s an honor to be recognized as alumni,” Commander Lipetska said. “I’m very proud to represent Klein ISD.”

After graduating from Texas A&M University with a degree in Industrial Distribution, Commander Lipetska served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years. During his service, he flew eight aircraft and was an instructor. He held numerous leadership roles throughout his military career and retired as a U.S. Navy Commander in 2013.

“What got me to this point is that I wanted to fly and serve,” Commander Lipetska said. “With student council and team sports, I think those carried me through to continue to serve in the Navy and at NASA.”

While Commander Lipetska is retired from the Navy, he still serves and flies in his current roles with NASA. He is an instructor, providing astronauts with space readiness training, a Chief pilot for the Gulfstream 5 program, and a Super Guppy pilot.

“Matt is a great mentor who has lived out his faith and wanted to serve his country in such a special way,” Klein ISD Board Trustee Mrs. Georgan Reitmeier said. “He’s had obstacles in life, and how he has handled them has inspired everyone who has known Commander Matt Lipetska.”

Commander Lipetska is a father of three who has had a successful career and continues doing great things. Recently he was awarded the prestigious Stuart M. Present Flight Achievement Award and NASA’s top pilot for 2022 award.

“We have many super exceptional students here,” Commander Lipetska said. “I want to encourage you guys to continue to want to serve.”

Congratulations to the February Klein ISD Distinguished Alumnus, Commander Matt Lipetska! Thank you for being an inspirational member of the Klein Family.
