Klein ISD Purchasing Department Honored with Prestigious State-level Award
Klein ISD is proud to be recognized by The Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO) with a 2023 Award of Merit for Purchasing Operations. This is the 5th year in a row that the Purchasing Department has been awarded this recognition.
“Congratulations to our amazing Purchasing department on winning this award,” Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. “While it’s an honor to gain another accolade such as this, it’s also a testament to the dedication our employees put in each day to fulfill the district’s mission of financial transparency and an exemplary education for our students.”
The Award of Merit was established in 2009 to recognize Texas school districts, open-enrollment charter schools, and education services centers committed to following professional standards in acquiring goods and services.
“We are so proud of our Purchasing Team for achieving this level of operations for this award of merit from TASBO,” Executive Director of Business Services Jason Gossett said. “We appreciate the work that they do to ensure that Klein ISD receives the best value possible on purchases while also accommodating the educational needs of students. We also would like to recognize Lisa Turner, Director of Purchasing, who retired in December for the department’s foundation so that we can continue and build on this success.”
The TASBO Purchasing & Supply Management Research Committee volunteers annually to evaluate the award criteria to ensure it represents the latest best practices. They then review new and recertification applications. For 2023, only 71 recipients met the stringent standards to qualify for the award.
“As Texas school districts face ever-increasing pressure to use funds efficiently, we’re proud of the work our honorees do to streamline operations, comply with regulations, and set the standard for utilizing taxpayer dollars,” TASBO Executive Director Tracy Ginsburg said. “These organizations have not only demonstrated their professional purchasing operations by documenting their districts’ policies and procedures, but have also shared these best practices with colleagues throughout Texas.”
The district’s purchasing team members were honored at an awards reception sponsored by BuyBoard Purchasing Cooperative in San Antonio, Texas, on February 15 during the 2023 TASBO annual conference.
