Michael Prejean Named District Secondary Teacher of the Year
Beloved Klein Oak Social Studies teacher and coach, Mr. Michael Prejean (aka ‘Coach P’) is positively impacting the lives of his students—both inside the classroom and on the basketball court. As a result, the dedicated educator was recently named the 2023 Klein ISD Secondary District Teacher of the Year.
Coach Prejean is a welcoming presence for all who come into his classroom. He is always in a winning mindset and wants everyone around him to be the ultimate and best they can be. This coach does a fantastic job every day growing and mentoring young Panthers.
“Our Secondary District Teacher of the Year, Mr. Michael Prejean, is a truly inspiring educator and leader,” Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. “He exemplifies what it means to know and serve every student by name, strength, and need and undoubtedly makes a lasting positive impact in the lives of our Klein Oak students and families. As a high-perfoming coach and devoted teacher, I couldn’t be more proud to recognize him for his outstanding work in the classroom and on the court. Congratulations, Mr. Prejean!”
Klein Oak student Gabrielle cherishes her time with Coach Prejean and how he is always willing to be a listening ear and a guiding light to herself and her peers.
“Coach P. is so special because he listens,” Gabrielle said. “He is always there to listen to me and have a real conversation with me. One of his biggest and best qualities is that he is empathetic and can understand the people he talks to on a deeper level. He has made Klein Oak somewhere where many other students and I feel comfortable to be ourselves.”
Klein Oak Principal Thomas Hensley is grateful for Coach Prejean and all he does for the Klein Oak Panther community.
“Coach Prejean has been such a big help for our student-athletes and our students in class,” Mr. Hensley said. “He creates a safe place where students can be involved and find a way to pull information and learn from students uniquely. In addition, he is phenomenal at building relationships.”
