7 Klein ISD Destination Imagination Teams Advance to Global Finals

7 Klein ISD Destination Imagination Teams Advance to Global Finals

This March, Texas Destination Imagination (DI) teams were hard at work, innovating and refining their unique solutions to various challenges.

We are proud to share that 20 teams from Klein ISD competed, with an impressive SEVEN teams securing their place in the 2023 Destination Imagination’s Global Finals!

“Students on my team have never done DI until this year, so LSF really helped them understand the scale of DI,” Klein Forest High School Team Manager Yujin Seo said. “They enjoyed experiencing all the things that come with competing at a DI tournament that practice runs simply can’t recreate—presenting their solutions in front of the appraisers and audience who genuinely wanted to be there, seeing different teams and the products they’ve created. I was really proud of them for directing their efforts on something they could control!”

Ms. Seo’s team was also the first ever Klein Forest DI Team to attend not only Lone Star Finals but also advance to Global Finals!

In addition to KFHS, Klenk Elementary is sending its first-ever Lone Star Finals AND Global Finals Team! Emily Williams, a first-year DI Team Manager, worked with students who had never been involved with Destination Imagination! Due to their high scores from the Regional Tournament, they were invited to Lone Star Finals as a Bonus Team. Through their hard work and creativity in both their improv challenge and instant challenge, they placed 4th out of 20 teams in their challenge room!

Since the Texas Destination Imagination Affiliate competition was held at the University of Texas-Arlington, many teams were in awe of how big the competition really was. From the larger audience size to performance spaces, from moving props from location to location to having an awards ceremony in a professional XFL stadium, the teams absolutely loved being a part of Lone Star Finals since this was the first overnight academic event for many of them!

For many teams, the growth happened in overcoming the missteps and mistakes from the Regional Tournament.

“They had to practice and critique themselves in order to be successful,” Mittelstadt Team Manager Megan MacDiarmid said. “They all grew creatively and learned to get out of their comfort zones. They had to learn to work tougher and collaborate when not everyone had the same ideas.”

Congratulations and good luck to the following teams as they compete in Destination Imagination’s Global Finals 2023, which will be held at the end of May!
